Volunteer Application for New Mentors

Students Rising Above (SRA):

SRA is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that works to enable social and economic mobility for first-generation students from low-income backgrounds. Having served nearly 2,000 students on their college-to-career journey, SRA’s unique wraparound, personalized approach is rooted in the belief that any student can find success when holistically supported and given access to resources, tools, and social and economic safety nets.

About this Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed volunteers who exemplify our DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) principles to join our team and become a part of our growing Mentor Network to support us in our mission to empower students facing systemic barriers to define and find success through education, career and in life. As a volunteer mentor, you will work alongside our mentorship program staff, other volunteers, students and/or alumni to contribute to the success of our organization. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, while making a positive impact in your community.

We are looking for Mentors from a diverse range of backgrounds and industries to work with our students. Mentors may help with exploring careers, goal setting, developing contacts, identifying resources, etc. Students Rising Above offers various volunteer mentoring opportunities, both long and short term, throughout the year that give community members a chance to work with our students in high impact and meaningful ways. SRA mentors who are selected to join our Mentor Network support SRA Students with guidance through one or more of the following programs:

  • Career Mentoring
  • New Grad Mentor Program
  • Summer Mentor Program
  • Grad School Exploration
  • Career Development Workshop Support

Mentors can choose to be called upon for any or all the available Mentoring Programs. *Please note that matches are based on student interest and needs.

(Note: SRA encourages folks from all backgrounds and life experiences to apply as the nature of our work is supporting young people, SRA requires a background check for volunteers in our longer-term mentoring programs (such as the Summer Mentor Program and New Grad Mentor Program). If invited into one of these programs, you will be asked to complete a background check through Sterling Volunteers.)
